‘You can change the world’: Japan A-bomb survivor tells US students visiting Hiroshima

HIROSHIMA — “Now that you have learned about Hiroshima today, you can change the world,” said 88-year-old atomic bombing survivor Keiko Ogura to American high school students visiting Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park on July 23, in the city’s Naka Ward.

    The 15 students, ages 16 to 18, were visiting Japan from seven U.S. states under the AIG High School Diplomats Program. One of the students responded that they wanted to acquire diplomatic skills for peace.

    Ogura conveyed the reality of the atomic bombing and the horror of nuclear weapons in English while showing photographs of the city immediately after the bombing and drawings by high school students in Japan based on her experiences.
